There is a blood thirstiness from supporters of the State of Israel in my country and the west writ large that unnerves me. Over the past many days, I've heard a lot about the Palestinian people of Gaza from people that know nothing about them. I've heard the whole situation was somehow their fault for electing Hamas in 2006 when 65% of them were under 7 years old. A free and fair election that the so-called democracies of the world responded to by freezing them out of any talks against the advice of Jimmy Carter in 2006. I've heard that Hamas is only a terrorist organization (its military wing definitely engages in terrorism ) but also that Hamas run the hospitals and therefore the death tolls coming out of Gaza therefore cannot be trusted (Biden). Today I saw someone claim that the refugees in the UN refugee camp that Israel blew up aren't even refugees. I heard a presenter on (channel 4 UK) news claim that the phrase "from the river to the sea" used in ANY context is beyond the pale. The campaign Israel is waging against the Palestinians is framed as Israel Hamas War but most of the dying is being done by Palestinian civilians. AntiSemites supporting Zionism though is a feature not a bug one anticipated and participated in by the architect of the project. Americans Identify with Israel not only for religious reasons but also and / or cynical political ones. But also because of our own unwillingness to deal with our racist settler colonialist past. This all might seem impenetrable and I encourage you to read up on it here because you see plenty of the other side's point of view already. To simplify let me leave you with this from the late Michael Brooks RIP.
